Darren Prout wins Double gold at Munster Championships.
We travelled to CastleIsland for weekend 2 of the Munster Track & Field Championships held on the 18th &19th of June which proved to be a very successful championship for our club.
In the U/14 girls 75m hurdles Rebecca Kelly won her heat and was 3rd in the Final.
In the U/14 boys 75m hurdles Jack O’Sullivan and Michael Whelan both running their first major championship qualified from their heats to reach the final where Jack finished 4th and Michael 7th in the final. In the final of the 800m Michael Whelan was always up with the leaders and finished 8th in a PB time of 2.31.
Girls U/15 The 80m Hurdles final was always going to be a very exciting race as both Kelly Ann Doyle and Leanne Prout having won their respective heats, it was breath taking performance all the way to the line from both athletes with Kelly Ann winning by 200th of a second from Leanne. The 250m Hurdles heats were again great races with both Kelly Ann and Leanne winning their heats. In the final Kelly Ann finished 2nd with Leanne in 4th place both qualifying for the All Ireland Final.
Boys U/15 Darren Prout had a great Triple Jump competition with a winning jump of 11.88m, Darren also had the winning jump in the Long Jump with a jump of 5.18m. Darren also did very well in his Hurdles races and was unlucky in the 80m Hurdles where his blocks slipped finishing 2nd in the 80mH and he was 3rd in the 250mH final.
Michael Dineen took the gold in the Javelin with a fine throw of 32.29m, Michael also won bronze in the Discus throwing 25.88m. Michael was 6th in the Hammer with a throw of 21.50m. Paddy Bartley was 6th in the 250m Hurdles final and 7th in the Triple jump with a jump of 11.88m.
U/16 Girls Clodagh Fitzgerald did well in final of the 250m Hurdles. In the Hammer Zoe Lynch did very well finishing 5th with a throw 24.29m, with her club mates Emily Walsh and Heather Dowley also did well.
In the Shot Eimear Bartley was 6th with a throw of 8.95m, Eimear was also 6th in the Long Jump with a jump of 4.32m and in the Javelin Emily Walsh was 4th with a throw of 27.13m.
U/17 Girls Aoife Meany running in her first Munster Championship did well to make the 100m final.
Girls U/18 Colleen Kennedy ran a great race to finish 3rd in 300m Hurdles in a time of 50.46.
Boys U/19 Shane O’Dwyer won the long with a jump of 6.46m and was 2nd in the High Jump with clearance of 1.89m. Shane was also 2nd in the 100m in a time of 11.54.
