Our
present Club was reformed in 1985 when interest in Athletics resumed within
the community. Previous to 1985 Carrick-on-Suir Athletic Club competed in
mainly Cross Country races but for some unknown fact our present club in
more successful in Track & Field events.
In 1992 we became the Top Juvenile Track & Field Club in
Tipperary
and have retained the top Club Title ever since. We also have won the
Munster Juvenile, Junior & Senior Indoor and Track & Field
Championship Club Titles on
numerous occasions. Over the years many of our athletes have been selected
at Juvenile, Junior and Senior level to compete at International
Championships winning may International Titles.
Two of our athletes accepted scholarships to American Universities
during the late 1990’s.
In 2003 & 2004 Seasons we won the County Tipperary Juvenile Cross
Country Championships. In 2004
& 2005 we successfully hosted the Munster Juvenile and Intermediate
Cross Country Championship and were rewarded with praise by every club for
such a brilliant course and hospitality.

At the County Indoor
Championship in 2005 we won a total of 27 Gold, 13 Silver & 17 Bronze
with our Relay Teams dominating the Championship winning five of the eight
Relay Titles on offer.
At the Munster Indoor Championship we won a total of 5 Gold, 10 Silver and
11 Bronze medals where fifteen of our athletes qualified to compete at the
All-Ireland Indoor Championships held in Nenagh. We won a total of 1 Gold, 5
Silver and 4 Bronze medals.
At the County Track & Field Championships 2005(Outdoor Season) we won a
total of 66 Gold, 47 Silver, 38 Bronze & again in the Relays we won a
total of 10 titles, 3 Silver & 3 Bronze medals.
At
the Munster Track & Field Championship we won 8 Gold, 7 Silver, 10
Bronze medals.
At
the All-Ireland Track & Field Championships in Tullamore & Sligo we
had twenty five athletes competing where we won 1 Gold, 2 Silver & 5
Bronze medals.
There
was great excitement in
Sligo
when our Girls Team U/14 won The All-Ireland Relay Title with the team of
Shauna O’Dwyer, Yvonne Maher, Aoife Bartley & Tara Fogarty. Our Girls
U/13 Team finished 3rd in their Relay Final.
At
The National Finals of the Community Games held in Mosney 2005 our Club
members won the Girls U/12 Relay Title with the team of Nikki O’Neill,
Ciara Danagher, Stephanie Cleary, Emma O’Gorman & Hayley Foley when
again the excitement was euphoric.
Our
Senior Club members also had a great season with Orla Power winning her
first Novice & Intermediate Cross Country Titles for our Club. Brian
Dunne, Maurice Donohue Francis O’Mahony, Brendan Doyle all won County,
Munster
and National Titles during the year. Brian,
Francis and Maurice were members of the Tipperary Team that won the National
League Final in August. They
also represented their respective College teams with great success.
Over
the past five years our Annual Club Outing where our Athletes have traveled
to the Scottish Indoor Championship in Kelvin Hall,
Glasgow
. This has proved to be an
enjoyable trip gaining great experience.
In February 2006, 31 Athletes and parents will again travel to
Glasgow
. We wish to thank all the
Athletes who competed to make our Club the success it is today. We hope that
they have great memories of the fun competition and friendships they made.
Many thanks also to the parents and the many people who supported us and
sponsored us over the years.
Our
training days are Tuesday or Wednesday & Friday at
4 pm
in The Sean Kelly Sports Centre Field. New members are always welcome. Our
emphasis is on fun, fitness and recreation.
