July 2008 Brilliant Result for our Club at the All Ireland Championship in Antrim

The long journey to Antrim Forum for our athletes and parents was very worth while, where all our athletes competed beyond their expectations even though the weather

conditions were sometimes atrocious.  Torrential rain greeted us on Saturday morning with many of our athletes in early competitions. Nevertheless it did not dampen their spirits. Triumphantly they won 5 Gold, 2 Silvers and 2 Bronze medals.

Our Gold Medal winners were  Clodagh Fitzgerald in the 60mHurdles;  Emma O’Gorman in the 250mHurdles, Aoife Bartley in the Long Jump, Laura Cuddihy in the Discus and Shane O’Dwyer in  his High Jump.

Girls U.13 Clodagh Fitzgerald in the first race of the day was 2nd in the heat of her

60m Hurdles but made no mistake in the final for a convincing win in a time of 10.1.  Clodagh  was 4th in the Javelin with a throw of 20.50.   Eimear Bartley was 3rd in the Shot Putt with a throw of 10.15m and 5th in the Javelin with a throw of 20.44m.  While Robyn O’Dwyer competing in the same age group had a P.B. of 4.21m in the Long Jump and also had a P.B. in the High Jump with a clearance of 1.30m.

Girls U.15 Emma O’Gorman had a convincing win in the heat of her 250mH and went on to have an equally great race in the final to win the Gold Medal in a time of 36.73.  Emma finished 5th In her 100m sprint.

Girls U.17 Aoife Bartley lead the Long Jump final with her first jump of 5.20m for a great victory.  Aoife was 4th in the 100m Hurdles final in a time of 15.6.  Laura Cuddihy also U.17 gave a fine performance winning the Discus Title with a final throw of 27.70m.

Boys U.16  Shane O’Dwyer equalled his P.B. jump of 1.70m to win his High Jump which was held in torrential rain and windy conditions.  Shane cleared 1.70m on his first attempt, this put the other competitors under pressure and none of them succeeded in what were atrocious competition conditions.  Shane was 4th  in his Long Jump with a jump of 5.70m.

Boys U.18 Keith Smith was 2nd in his Triple Jump with a jump of 11.52m, Keith 3rd in his 110mHurdles in a time of 16.9 and 4th in the Javelin with a throw of 39.53m.

Dara Kervick had a convincing win in the heat of the 400m and finished joint 2nd in the final with a time of 51.74.

Our best wishes to Aoife Bartley  representing Scoil Mhuire on the Irish Team  in the Schools International which will be held in Bedford this weekend.
